Biography

Curatolo Leonardo

Born in Marsala (TP) on 23-05-1968
I reside in Athens, Greece.
Diploma in Accounting and Business Expertise.
Father of three children.
Proud to be a Grandfather of Three Wonderful Grandchildren

Having lost my father at the age of four, I had a rather eventful childhood. From 1972 to 1984 I lived in boarding schools, such as the Sacro Cuore in Palermo, and later the P. Giovanni Semeria Institute in San Martino delle Scale. It was in the latter that the strength to do well was born in me, so much so that for many years I received praise and awards as a model student. I spent the summers of those years in the Brancaccio neighborhood of Palermo. From 1984 to 1985 I lived in Partanna, in the province of Trapani, a small town famous for its “Grifeo” castle.

There, in addition to attending school, I worked to support myself by harvesting almonds, carobs, plants, and sumac. From 1985 to 1986 I worked as a dishwasher in a hotel in Valletta, Malta. I later served as a Petty Officer in the Navy, decorated with a medal during an operational training mission. I am a member of A.N.M.I. Marsala TP. As an associate ‘Sailor Forever,’ I represent ANMI at ceremonies in memory of the fallen in Greece, in Cephalonia, Leros, Thessaloniki, Souda, and Sounio.
I dedicate myself to the remembrance of Italian soldiers fallen in Greece, serving as president of the committee for the fallen of Kos and for the tragedies of the steamships Sinfra and Petrella, keeping the memory of these events alive. At my own expense, I organize ceremonies on the island of Leros, also inviting Rai, which broadcast a report on TG NEWS24. In addition, I organize conferences on the island of Kos in memory of the fallen and personally cover the related expenses for the maintenance of the cemetery.

During my tenure as president of the Committee for the Fallen of Kos and the tragedies of the steamships Infrascata and Petrella, I organized numerous initiatives aimed at keeping alive the memory of the Italian fallen in Greece and at promoting historical remembrance and the strengthening of relations between Italy and Greece.

In particular, on the occasion of the conference held
on the island of Kos, I had the honor to invite and
to welcome prominent figures from the political sphere
in Italy, including Senators Stefania Pucciarelli and Manfredi Potenti.
Manfredi. Their participation enriched the
debate and strengthened the importance of the issues.
discussed, helping to raise awareness among public opinion

public and institutional awareness of the remembrance
of our fallen and of the tragedies that involved our fellow citizens in Greece.

In 1990 I collaborated (as a driver and operational consultant) with a well-established leading company in the transport of goods.
agricultural and food products from Italy to Greece and vice versa. Over time, by gaining experience and knowledge of the Balkan market, I decided to move to Greece, where in 1999 I established a company based in Athens.

The work carried out was appreciated and rewarded with new collaborations. Among the main partners that shaped our history was Ferrero S.p.A., for whom we managed transport from Italy to Greece. Our professionalism was also valued by Chiquita, where we handled transport to and from Italy and Greece. Our reliability also appealed to Dole, which chose to establish a working relationship with us. A service we proudly carried out was logistics, transport, and, when necessary, the supply of agri-food products for the largest cruise ship companies such as Celestyal Cruises, Costa Cruises, MSC, and Norwegian Cruises.
Subsequently, we achieved positive results in 2005, with an import-export turnover of all associated companies amounting to 120 million euros. We opened branches in Thessaloniki and, in 2009, in Pyrgos, in Elis, Peloponnese. On March 18, 2010, the Confederation of Italian Entrepreneurs in Europe awarded the founder of the company, Leonardo Curatolo, with the ‘Italians as Protagonists in the World Award’, presented in Athens in the presence of Italian and Greek political figures.
In 2011, with the events that changed the political and economic map of Europe, especially in Greece, my company, with great seriousness and humility, was forced to reduce its workforce, even facing the risk of bankruptcy. Remaining faithful to the saying that ‘what matters is not how you fall, but how you get back up’, and taking responsibility for my mistakes, I sought the right way to recover… seeking investments in terms of time and human resources in other commercial fields…
The new challenge concerned the sportswear sector — a challenge successfully met, with sales increasing by 180%, which earned me the trust to represent LEGEA not only in Greece but also in other Balkan countries (2011–2018). In 2013, I signed an important contract with all amateur athletic disciplines of Olympiakos, which made me known nationwide in the sports sector. In addition, I signed contracts with major football, volleyball, basketball, and handball teams in Serie A and B in Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and Montenegro. Significant supplies were also made to the Swimming Federation and the Greek Sailing Federation. In the amateur football sector, we surpassed 50% of the market share.
In 2018, the Group Lu.Le. Balkans Foundation was established, a group of companies offering various services, with Leonardo Curatolo as President. It is structured with offices in Athens (Greece), Nicosia (Cyprus), and Sofia (Bulgaria). The operational headquarters are in Athens, with 350 m² of highly efficient offices equipped with meeting rooms and exhibition halls. The staff is qualified, with responsibilities divided by areas and products.
A well-established and recognized company in the sector as a leading import-export firm. Today I represent renowned international companies, with an Italian heart and spirit, in the field of sportswear and accessories such as ACERBIS, BARRET, and PREMIERS TROPHY in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Kosovo, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey.
In the agri-food sector, we collaborate with international companies: Gruppo Sonzogni (Telgate BG), F/lli Spreafico (Dolzago LC), Evergreen, OP Casalicchio (Polignano a Mare BA), Mediterranea (Santa Venerina CT), Vittoria (RG), and fruit and vegetable companies of the Central Markets of Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa, and Patras (Greece). We manage agricultural production warehouses in Greece, in Laconia, Thessaly, and Imathia.
In 2019, based on the development of new strategies and as an active participant in the Running world (Ultra Runner), I invested in the commercial branch and in sports athletic tourism. We collaborate with professional and amateur associations in the Running sector, providing hotels, coaches, and trainers for a different way of experiencing tourism.
In 2023, strengthened by my positive and successful experience, I decided to contribute to the political world. For my ability to inspire others, to value each team member, to instill trust, sincerity, and consistency, but above all for knowing how to make difficult and quick decisions, I believe I am the right person at the right time to take on this new path.

Marsala, the entrepreneur Leonardo Curatolo makes a gesture of solidarity
towards needy families
A gesture of gratitude and altruism.

The donation of food parcels represents an initiative full of personal meaning for Curatolo, who explains: ‘A charitable act that I wanted to carry out, together with Emisfero del Vento and Marsala Volley, for people in difficulty, giving back what was once done for me when I was a child. Some families from Marsala gave me the chance to experience the ‘warm’ moments of Christmas, which otherwise I would never have been able to live.

I am a motivated individual with a strong passion for social issues and politics, dedicated to promoting values of solidarity, inclusion, and active participation. I believe in the power of civic engagement as a tool for change and I am committed to supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life of people and communities.
